Disputed Facts & Research
Historical research often involves conflicting evidence. TimeWrit provides a robust toolset for tracking disputed claims, investigation progress, and public feedback without cluttering your primary narrative.
## Disputed Facts
A **Disputed Fact** allows you to record an alternative value for a specific field (e.g., a different birth date or name spelling) alongside the primary record.
### How to use:
1. Open any record (Person, Location, Event) in the administration interface.
2. Scroll to the **Disputed Facts** inline section.
3. Select the **Field Name** being contested.
4. Provide the **Alternative Value** and link to the **Source** supporting this claim.

> [!TIP]
> Use the **Notes** field to explain *why* the evidence is conflicting. This helps future researchers (and your future self) understand the context of the dispute.
## Research Questions
Investigative work often requires long-term follow-up. Use **Research Questions** to track what needs discovery.
- **Status Tracking**: Mark questions as *Open*, *Answered/Resolved*, or *Deferred*.
- **Ownership**: Questions are private to the data owner.
- **Centralized View**: Monitor all investigations across your collection in the **Research questions** list view.

## Public Comments & Corrections
If your timeline is public, other researchers can submit comments or corrections.
- **Moderation Required**: Comments appear in the **Public comments** list but are NOT visible to others until you approve them.
- **Privacy**: Submitters can provide an email address for private follow-up.

> [!IMPORTANT]
> **Resolution**: When a dispute is settled, check the **Is resolved** box. The alternative value will remain in the database for audit purposes but will be visually marked as settled in specialized research views.
