Navigating the Interface

The TimeWrit interface is designed to keep your research at your fingertips. From the main canvas to the advanced filter bar, every element is built for speed and clarity. ## The Interface at a Glance Use the labeled diagram below to orient yourself within the application. ### 1. Top Navigation Bar (Global) Access the central hubs of the application: - **Bibliography**: Your citation library and source manager. - **Manage**: The command center for adding People, Locations, and Timelines. - **Help**: This documentation portal. ### 2. The Search & Filter Bar The toolbar above the canvas is your most powerful tool: - **Search**: Instantly find events by name, description, or person. - **View Toggles**: Switch between the standard **Timeline**, the geographical **Map**, and the **Knowledge Graph**. - **Layout Controls**: Toggle between "Free" layout (best for dense data) and "Grouped" layout (best for categorizing by person or location). ### 3. The Interactive Canvas This is where history comes alive. - **Zoom & Pan**: Use your mouse wheel or the controls on the right to navigate time. - **Event Cards**: Click any event to open its **Details Modal**, where you can see full descriptions, attachments, and bibliography links. > [!TIP] > **Pro Tip**: Use the **FIT** button in the toolbar to automatically zoom out and center the timeline on all your currently filtered events. --- *Last updated: Mar 11, 2026*
